McLean Care’s iAgeHealth project revolutionising aged care

In the heartlands of regional and rural Australia, where access to healthcare can be a challenge, McLean Care, a not-for-profit aged care provider, has embarked on an innovative journey to transform the landscape of aged care.

Through their initiative, iAgeHealth, they are redefining the standards of healthcare delivery for older Australians residing in regional, rural and remote communities.

This collaborative effort, supported by ACCPA, holds promise in revolutionising the way healthcare is accessed and delivered, particularly in areas where resources are scarce.

iAgeHealth aims to bridge the gap in healthcare services for seniors residing in regional, rural, and remote areas bringing about a multitude of benefits, including;

  • improved accessibility to clinicians,
  • reduced wait times for critical interventions,
  • decreased healthcare costs, and
  • enhanced access to specialised clinical advice and treatments.

By leveraging a virtual multi-disciplinary health hub, iAgeHealth ensures round-the-clock access to a spectrum of healthcare professionals, seamlessly integrated with IoT (Internet of Things) devices for timely diagnosis, treatment and monitoring.

What sets iAgeHealth apart is its comprehensive approach towards healthcare delivery. Led by Nurse Practitioners, the initiative boasts a multidisciplinary team comprising registered nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dieticians, wound specialists, dementia specialists, and more.

The development of iAgeHealth has been a testament to collaborative efforts and co-design principles. With an involvement from over 100 elderly residents in rural and remote facilities, the initiative was tailor-made to address the specific needs and challenges faced by these communities. Through virtual workshops and stakeholder engagements, a robust framework was established, ensuring that the solution resonates with the end-users and healthcare providers alike.

The success of the pilot phase highlights the immense potential of iAgeHealth in reshaping the future of aged care. With tangible outcomes such as improved wound healing, enhanced mobility, and better access to specialised healthcare, the initiative has garnered widespread acclaim.

Looking ahead, the scalability of iAgeHealth presents an opportunity to extend its reach to additional aged care facilities across Australia. iAgeHealth also provides solutions for home and community care clients, as well as a surge workforce solution for residential aged care facilities in all settings – not just those in rural, regional and remote locations.

By harnessing the power of innovation and collaboration, McLean Care has set an excellent example for delivering better care through transformative technology.
