ACCPA welcomes appointment of CEO to Government Aged Care Taskforce

The Aged and Community Care Providers association is delighted CEO Tom Symondson has been appointed to the Federal Government’s Aged Care Taskforce.

The taskforce will examine the sustainability of aged care now and in the future, promising the biggest reforms to the sector in more than two decades.

“We’re grateful the Government is including ACCPA into such an important conversation, that will affect all Australians,” Mr Symondson said.

“By giving ACCPA a seat at the table the Government has signalled it’s willingness to listen to the experts,  people with boots on the ground, at the coalface of aged care.”

Last week Mr Symondson led an Aged Care Sustainability Summit at Old Parliament House, bringing together aged care experts, unions, academics and consumer groups to consider how aged care will be funded in the next 20-30 years.

ACCPA is heartened that the Government is recognising the important contributions aged care providers can make to the discussion and a way forward.

“Demand for aged care is only going to grow. In the next 10 years, demand will double as baby boomers require care in greater numbers, placing an increasing burden on Government coffers and providers.”

“It’s vital we get the model right, not just in terms of budget, but for the people we serve, older Australians.”

“It’s about providing the best possible care we can, because that’s what they deserve.”
